The Surface Book is now available, and with it comes a new “Making the switch” site from Microsoft targeted specifically at Apple’s MacBook owners. In short, Microsoft is very aware that many Mac users haven’t spent much time with Windows, let alone Windows 10, and the Surface Book itself has a few tricks up its sleeve.
Microsoft markets the Surface Book as “the ultimate laptop,” and while we consider that a stretch, we were impressed in our hands-on with the device. That said, it’s a very expensive laptop-tablet hybrid: The Surface Book starts at$1,499.
Microsoft explains why it built a Surface Book site just for MacBook users:
We want you to feel confident switching from Mac to Surface Book
Computers, and the memories you keep within them, are incredibly personal. We know moving these memories from one platform to another can be nerve-racking and learning new software can seem daunting. We want to make the transition as easy as possible. If you currently have a Mac and have questions about switching to Microsoft Surface Book and Windows 10, we designed this site to help get you started.
The site is really just a home to four guides that mainly focus on moving from OS X to Windows:
In short, the message from Microsoft is: “Don’t worry, buying a Surface Book doesn’t mean you have to stop using other Apple products. It’s easy to switch, and we’ll show you how.”
With its renewed Surface push, we expect Microsoft will continue to target Apple specifically. After all, during the Surface Book launch, the company declared its new product was “twice as fast” as Apple’s MacBook Pro.
